I’m seeing more authors share curated lists of “favorites,” and this is a trend that actually resonates for me. Most trends don’t. I’ve been called a nerd many times, but “au courant,” I am not. —Jennifer
In March, I requested this book…
Annalisa Crawford’s One Tuesday, Early. If you’ve been with me awhile, you know I’m a fan of Annalisa’s work—and her newest novel is another goodie. She takes a beautiful, literary risk in juxtaposing an intimate 3rd person point of view with 2nd person, allowing her two main characters to narrate what they experience when one disappears without a trace…and it really works. Moody, surreal, and—like everything of hers that I’ve read so far—an immersive experience for the reader. I received an advanced copy and enjoyed every word.
I also binged this TV series…
Resident Alien with Alan Tudyk and Sara Tomko. This show is sheer, stupid joy with superb comedic acting (and gloriously inappropriate humor). The first two seasons are on Netflix right now, and if you can appreciate the exuberantly “out there” scripts, your laughter muscles will appreciate the workout!
Savored the perfect spring lunch…
Lightly steamed asparagus and spring onion, a slice of VioLife vegan gouda, and a Dr. Praeger’s Black Bean Quinoa veggie pattie, all folded into a corn tortilla. I was lucky to find a super-fresh bundle of slim asparagus stalks at the market—so tender they barely needed trimming!
Read this fascinating article…
The Debrief did a deep dive on why AARO’s less-than-impressive report on UAPs has holes bigger than a crashed mother ship. Seriously, I could make a whole newsletter of links to rando articles. I’m tellin’ ya. Everything connects!
Pardon me while I go fashion a lovely new hat out of tinfoil…
Okay, I’m back. Where was I?
I found my new favorite pastime!
I’ve been playing with Adobe Firefly to create images for Substack posts, and it’s such a collaborative experience! Like most creators, I have strong opinions on what is and isn’t okay with using AI for content creation—and have particularly strong opinions on LLM data scraping—but like other powerful tools, AI itself isn’t “bad” or “good.” Embellishing my posts with digital art is fun—and definitely not taking a paid job from a human.
Speaking of Substack…
I also read this thought-provoking post.
I’ve been a subscriber to Elle Griffin’s
for a couple of years now, and her articles are always well-researched and intriguing. Whether or not I agree with a point of view she’s exploring makes her discussions on “utopia” all the more fascinating. Like this one…And here’s how I experienced the most joy!
A TV show about a whacky alien might make me laugh until I cry…but real joy was Kenna! This cat is springtime cheer wrapped in fur. She has one wonky eye, a perpetual nasal drip, huge paws with a bony, lanky body—and comes bounding up to greet me like she’s a puppy instead of a full-grown cat. Happiness.💖
And now, I’ll leave you with a tune that’s been in my head for weeks now.
My song of the moment…
“Let Your Love Flow” by The Bellamy Brothers. So good. If you’re too young to remember this one playing on the radio…you’re welcome. 😉
Thank you so much for sharing my work. We definitely don't need to agree on utopia to explore it! Even I have no idea if that idea is a good one 😆
