Todayâs share is short, and hopefully holds as much value for you in reading it, as it does for me in writing it.
Iâm giving myself the gift of this week to work on what inspires me and follow that inspiration to clarity on where to focus my creative energy. There are only so many hours in a day, and although work brings me joy, Iâve been missing Life in many ways. (But yes, Like Moonlight on Water is still in-processâand definitely a joy.)
See $1.99 book sale at bottom if youâre interested! đ
Creativity is a part of existence. All existence, and every being in existence.
It is not endowed on special people who happen to be gifted in the arts, or who inspire others to live better lives, or who have unique brains that make high-level connections and build zillion-dollar businesses from their garages.
Creativity is a noun. If youâll allow me a little grammatic leewayâŚitâs a âthing.â And things can be acquired, nurtured, sought, and found.
Am I sharing this to discount the incredibly talented artists and creators in the world Of course not.
Am I saying this to downplay natural talents or genetic gifts? Nope.
I am saying this because nearly every day I cross paths with someone who believes they are limitedâand therefore creates their own boundaries.
Iâm sharing this because even the most fantastically talented people I know get lost âin the weedsâ between conception and execution of their projects.
Iâm offering these words, because there is a difference between a definitionâŚand defining yourself.
Iâll have more to share next week, but if this resonates with you in any wayâor perhaps for someone you care aboutâthen maybe consider this as wellâŚ
The prescription for gaining creative clarity is simple:
Define what you fear if you achieve/create your _________ (project, dream, life, task, job, etc.)
Define what you fear if you do not achieve/create it.
Consider those fears and decide if they really hold value for youâor are perhaps leftovers from some other personâs definition (even an older version of yourself).
Then, when youâre readyâŚ
List what your âbest and highestâ self desires from achieving/creating your ____________ (project, ideal job, etc.).
Define what makes you uniquely able to achieve/create it and why you should.
Does this introspective process immediately solve all your problems and make you a novelist or painter or successful entrepreneur?
Nope.
Wonât remodel your house with the wave of a magic wand, either.
But it will give you creative clarity.
An internal True North to help you navigate your next steps.

Now about that book saleâŚ!
Many of you are new on my list (welcome!) and may not have read my first novel yet, so youâve been getting major spoilers with the serial installments of Like Moonlight on Water.
Like the sequel, Daughters of Men is speculative womenâs fictionâand itâs on sale for $1.99 on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo until July 4th.
If you purchase a copy, lemme know! I have a little gift for anyone who reads it before the end of the month. đ
Jen I love your ideas. We really put out the boundaries ourselves and talk negative to ourselves more than to the others. Have a great 4th of Julyâ¤ď¸
